MacNeillie showcases armoured vehicles at DVD

MacNeillie would like to thank all those that visited our stand at DVD. We very much enjoyed welcoming both familiar and new faces as well as updating the sector on our latest developments.

Our market leading armoured products attracted much attention including the Iveco Daily Minibus with VR7 protection level, floor blast protection, 14-seat capacity and other key features such as an emergency escape hatch. Our market leading armoured Toyota Land Cruiser also much generated interest with its BR6 protection level, DM31 mine protection level and is PAS300 certified.

This is the first DVD event since MacNeillie became part of Babcock International Group, and it proved a great opportunity to meet colleagues across the Defence business and to share the innovation and best practice, within our areas, for the benefits of our customers.

In its 16th year, DVD showcases the equipment and technology that can support a British Army and is a key event for all involved in UK Land Forces equipment and support.

integrated communications

Responding to market changes in integrated communications

During DVD we became ever more aware of how quickly MacNeillie has responded to changes, both in customer requirements and leading edge communications technology, since the inaugural show in 2003.

A cursory glance at the outside of a current MacNeillie command and control unit may not reveal the huge acceleration in compliant in-vehicle communications and data systems. Step inside the vehicle and a very different world is revealed with multiple screens projecting satellite tracking imagery, rolling news and planning and mapping software – all driven by frontline officers. This is supported by a satellite broadband system and VoIP plus mesh camera systems amongst other specialist equipment required for military specialist and emergency services vehicles.

The increasing demand for in-vehicle communications has seen MacNeillie grow the size and capability of its team so that we can continue to develop capabilities to meet both current and future requirements. We work closely with customers to fully understand their operational challenges and tailor the solutions to meet these. As an agnostic supplier, we will also select the best in market – introducing innovation where it truly supports the customer. The end user, the officer, is also critical to the solution. That’s why we consider the working environment, from ergonomics to welfare and comfort.

Our communications capability extends to the assessment of radio equipment. This is critical to ensuring the conversion of the vehicles does not throw out any anomalies elsewhere in the machines performance. To achieve this, we have invested in semi-anechoic electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test facilities which provide assessments including antenna performance, and electrical supply disturbance and consumption.

Composite Ten Year Anniversary Image

Delivering ten successful years of composites

MacNeillie is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its Composite Division in 2016. Originally acquired in 2006, the Division has expanded its production and supply of affordable advanced composite products for a wide range of external customers and applications .

Advanced composite materials provide a unique solution for light weighting and robust protection requirements, and are often used within military and emergency services products. Over the last 10-years, MacNeillie has continually invested in its people and facilities to ensure it remains at the forefront of the application of advanced composites – designing and producing complex shapes and structures which would otherwise be extremely challenging and expensive with traditional alternative materials.

MacNeillie offers composites for a broad product range from specialist coach-built vehicle bodies, such as horseboxes, through to composite specialist bodies used for riot protection or public order vehicles. In addition to supplying composites for traditional coachwork, we supply specialist composite parts for sporting event vehicles and other specialist vehicles. These include track day bumper protection system, air ducts, bonnets and spoiler kits.

You can find out more about MacNeillie composites at DVD, from September 7-8th at Millbrook , where we are showcasing our specialist vehicle conversions and electronic and communication integration capabilities. Further we will be exhibiting at the Composites Show at the NEC from November 2nd-3rd.

Part of Babcock International Group, MacNeillie is the UK’s leading specialist vehicle converter with a history spanning over 100 years. MacNeillie understands the challenging environment in which our customers operate, customising our vehicles to meet their exacting requirements – taking into account the level of protection, operational usage and terrain and environment. Welcome from Richard Semmens, MacNeillie’s Managing Director

I am delighted to be appointed Managing Director of S. MacNeillie & Son. The support and welcome I have received over the first weeks, from all facets of the business, has been great.

This initial period has been particularly important in familiarising myself with the business, particularly the excellent relationships that we have built with our customers and suppliers. I strongly believe that our customer focused culture and tailored approach is critical to building long-term partnerships and providing ever greater value.

I have been impressed with the craftsmanship and technical skills demonstrated by our people, and I am keen to invest in their ongoing development as well as those joining us through our expanding apprenticeship scheme. This development is core to the continuous improvement of our products and services.

With my manufacturing background in many sectors, I am looking forward to working with our teams to ensure best practice across our processes and to develop our product and materials range to give our customers what they need – now and in the future.

Some 18-months have now passed since Babcock first acquired MacNeillie, and this has brought a number of benefits to the business and our customers. I intend to build on this, leveraging better terms from our supplier relationships across the Group and bringing across the latest asset management practices and processes to the benefit of our customers.

Finally I would like to pay tribute to Nigel and the team that have achieved so much over the years. My ambition is to build on that strong foundation of high quality specialist vehicle conversions, to integrate MacNeillie, and to work closely with our customers to develop future products and technologies needed for those next challenges.

I look forward to working with you all.
